Make something of your own.

Two hands-on workshop series: open-ended art and craft for children, and pastel Nagomi art for children and adults.

Hands-on and grouped by age Guided, with room for their own choices Nurture Craft and Nurture Nagomi

Workshops we host

Grouped by age:3 to 67 to 12

Guided art and craft where children try out materials, make their own choices and finish with work that is theirs.

Guided making, with room for their ideas

Nurture Craft is our art and craft series. Each session starts with a theme, a table of materials and enough guidance to get children going. After that, the work can go wherever they take it.

We might demonstrate a technique, introduce an artist or show how a material behaves. Children then decide on colour, shape, texture and how the piece goes together. Two children can start with the same prompt and finish with completely different pieces, and both are exactly what we hope for.

Depending on the theme, children might:

  • Paint, print, draw and collage
  • Sculpt and build with clay and simple materials
  • Work with textiles, natural objects and reused materials
  • Pick up a little science on the way, from colour mixing to balance

Mistakes are part of it. A wobbly line becomes part of the picture. A piece that won’t stand up leads to a better way of building it. An unexpected colour turns into a new idea.

What a craft session teaches

Craft sessions give children practice in skills they use well beyond the art table.

We help without taking over, so every finished piece belongs to the child who made it.

Along the way, children practise:

  • Creative confidence and visual thinking
  • Fine-motor control and careful handling
  • Making decisions and explaining their choices
  • Solving problems when materials misbehave
  • Care for tools, materials and shared spaces

Every Nurture Craft session comes back to the same thing: notice, imagine, try it, and enjoy making an idea real.

What happens in a workshop

A craft project and a guided pastel picture look nothing alike, and in both the child does the work.

Depending on the workshop, a session may include:

  • 1A short introduction or demonstration
  • 2Open-ended making or guided art practice
  • 3Time to choose, experiment, practise or refine
  • 4Conversation, so children can say what they notice and think
  • 5A moment at the end to look back and ask what comes next
Guidance that fits the activity

How much guidance we give depends on the workshop. In every case, the child does the making.

A way in for every child

Children arrive at different ages, with different experience and confidence. We adjust the pace, the explanation and the difficulty so each child has a real way to take part.

For one child that means watching the demonstration twice before trying. For another it means choosing their own materials or polishing a technique. Help is there when they want it, and there is no one right way through.

Nobody needs to know anything before they start.

A workshop is somewhere to try, practise and get better.
